What is the best way to buy a Boxer (dog)? (Through breeders, classifieds, etc...?)?

I want to buy a Boxer, but I want my dog to be pure and healthy....what is the best way to find it?What is the best way to buy a Boxer (dog)? (Through breeders, classifieds, etc...?)?
Find a responsible breeder. A responsible breeder will:

1) be breeding to the breed's standard..no teacup, micro, mini, imperial,

king, or other goofy term for runts or oversized dogs. No intentional

"rare", meaning unaccepted by the breed standard, colors either.

2) will be actively showing or working the parents.

3) will have genetic health testing done, such as OFA or PennHip, CERF,

VonWillebrand's, etc.

4) will give you the results of that testing in writing

5) insists on spay/neuter for pet pups.

6) has a contract citing the spay/neuter clause and also offering to take

back the pup at any time for any reason for the rest of its life.

7) is open, honest, and available to the new owner, and can talk aobut their

breed for hours.

8) does a home check before placing a pup, and will turn down homes that

might not be suitable for a pup of their breed.

9) does not put money above the well-being of their animals.

If the breeder you are considering doesn't fit these guidelines, find a

better breeder. You are more likely to get a mentally and physically

healthier pup from a responsible breeder.

Look for dog shows in your area, and contact teh nearest boxer club in your area for referrals. Also look at www.akc.org to learn more about finding responsible breeders.
if you want a boxer (dog), you should find someone who is willing to sell their boxer for a cheap price. i bought my boxer (dog) from the place across burger king and the gas station in new britian also near the rock cats stadium. she was only $650, and i got har when she was 6 months old.

A reputable breeder that shows or works their dog. Try going to a local dog show and talk with the breeders there.
The best way to buy any breed of dog, especially if you want to it be purebred and healthy is through a breeder. You can find a breeder through one of the kennel clubs.

Anything you find through the classifieds or things of that nature are backyard breeders or puppy mills who don't like to conform to breed standards and aren't concerned about their pups health, as our Pomchi breeder enjoyed telling us in one answer today - which reminds me to tell you NOT to pick the Continental Kennel Club as one of the kennel clubs you use in your research to find a reputable breeder.

That is where backyard breeders like to advertise as they don't make them conform to the breed standards.
the best way to buy any type of pure and healthy dog is to go through a reputable breeder, one with proven dogs, that doesnt breed for money, with health certs on the dogs, that will let you see the litter and the parents.

THat is if you arent going through the shelter.
Go to boxer club of american and find breeders there. They will be the best there is for conformation and health. Make sure to ask the breeder what health testing they do.
If you want a purebred boxer the only way to get it is more then likely going to be a reputable breeder.

Not a backyard breeder a good one. Make sure you ask to see the papers on the parents and the grandparents. If they are purebred they should have no problem showing them to you. AKC papers are the better of any IMO.

If you want a dog like this some rescues have these dogs and many have their shots and all they need to be in good health. I know are rescue (which is not boxers) we have to have all medical , and health problems resolved before we can adopt them. ALso many make sure they are or have gone through some temperament test as well.

I wish you luck and hope you find what you are searching for and enjoy the new dog
If I was you best bet is through a actural Breeder, to insure you are getting what they say you are, and plus you WILL get papers along with it. I went on craigslist and found a boxer mix, mostly boxer, and she looks just like a boxer. And she is already house broken, thank god! LOL, anyway. good luck sry i cldnt help more
my first choice would be to go through a boxer rescue (do a google search to find one in your area). most of the dogs they have will be purebred, and they will not adopt out a dog with health issues without your knowledge. this is a great way to help out a dog that needs a home, and will cost you a lot less than going to a breeder.

otherwise, i would advise searching for a breeder online and staying clear of classifieds/craigslist, as reputable breeders wouldn't need to resort to advertising there. whatever you do, don't go to a pet store! their puppies come from puppy mills (even though they will tell you it's from a local breeder). dogs that live in puppy mills have miserable lives (i'll spare you the details), and you definitely don't want your money to support something like that. the puppy will most likely be poorly bred and be prone to health and behavioral problems as well.

enjoy your new dog! boxers are great breed, good choice!
