am trying to design a sample portal for my country uganda as my project graduation ... portal that is like yahoo handles classifieds, mall and directory.! so please i really need you all in this project of mine ... waiting right now..How can i bulid an online directory, classifieds and what what platforms can i use!..?

All depends on what you like, and what your host has.
if you are using a windows host then you can run .NET (which is better then PHP at the moment) of course you could still run PHP if your host allows for it. .NET and PHP are the two common server side scripting languages. of course you really arn't limited to those.. there's also PERL, the C++, heck even VB6 with a CGU wrapper.
so what ever you know or are comfortable with, would be your answer.
