Why not combine all classifieds into one SUPER database?

There are craigslist, recycler, newspapers, magazines, market bulletins etcetera....Wouldn't it be nice if there was one master classified database where u type one %26amp; it'll retrive info from all? Are we working on this? Will this come true? Why not combine all classifieds into one SUPER database?
That would be nice wouldn't it. But unfortunately it probably won't happen (but then again you never know). In business, there's hardly a monopoly out there. Whenever a company comes up with a great idea, another one is bound to come along and copy it.

It's the same with classifieds. Even if you had one super database, there's going to be someone else who's going to copy it. There's just so many classifieds databases out there. But each one targets a different area. For example, the classified ads in the New York newspaper are targeting those of New York and not California. So you'll always have local classified ads.

Another reason why super databases wouldn't really exist is because they usually cost something. If you wanted to make sure that everyone was able to see it, you would have to spend a lot of money on ad space everywhere. Then you probably ask, why not just spend it in a super database. Two things, 1) it'll probably still cost more than a local ad and 2) not everyone is going to use the super database.

If anything, Craigslist would probably come the closest to a "super database" when it comes mind. It has ads from sellers all over the world. But then again most of those sellers on Craigslist just want to sell locally. Even though Craigslist comes closes to a super database, there are still classified ads everywhere.

That's just my opinion.
